Like most recent college graduates I was a bit uncertain of whether I was on the “right” path with my life the months after I received my diploma from Arizona State University. It was about a half year after I graduated, that I was able to connect with Ignite, and discover what it was all about. Looking back now, I can recognize how that day was truly a catalyst moment for my life and what it has become. Before I share what’s transpired since that day, I want to share a bit about how my life was as a “wandering ex-student,” trying to figure out what life after school was supposed to be for me.
In college I created some great things, had a fun time, and made an impact in my community. I was someone who naturally enjoyed being a leader and bringing people together to share experiences, such as; facilitating team meetings, hosting parties, inspiring trips with my friends, or creating new traditions in my communities. My passion to bring people together led me to co-found two organizations during my college career, ASU Undie Run and Collegetown ASU, along with two businesses; Entourage Marketing & Project U. What I didn’t realize at the time and until I went through ignite, was that; while I always knew that I was passionate about bringing people together, I didn’t realize that I had a profound curiosity about community, as a result of my childhood.
Prior to graduating from ASU in December of 2011, I was constantly wondering, like every graduate must wonder; “What’s Next?”
After graduation, I was eager to create great things, have fun, and make an impact in the community, through my life’s work. However, I felt unsure on how I would go about it, especially since I felt like there were endless possibilities. After entering “the real world,” although I got involved with some great opportunities, I realized that I was pursuing them mostly because they were related to what I studied in college, instead of what I truly wanted to do - something I’ve seen so many of us do.
I knew something wasn’t quite right, and I was anxiously trying to figure out what would be best for me moving forward. I was constantly reading books and blogs, going to conferences, and even interviewing people I admired. Looking back, I realize that I was trying to figure out what I wanted, by trying to figure out what other people wanted with their lives. Then, on July 12th 2012, a couple days after the celebration of the American Revolution, I experienced my own personal revolution.
“What you love is a natural outcome of what you do.
What you do is a natural outcome of what you love.”
On this day, I experienced the Ignite Process, which enabled me to focus and go deeper inside myself, and become aware to what I have always been wanting for my life. The experience uncovered what I was subconsciously curious about since I was young child, and what I have been searching for, ever since. I never realized until then, that my desire to build community was a result of my childhood experience. The process had me reflect on the books, stories and movies that I really connected with over the years, including my all time favorite; “The Count of Monte Cristo.”
The process helped me remember that; since I was a kid, I always said that I wanted to be an inventor, but not an inventor of things; an inventor of inspired communities. And that’s what I have been trying to do, and doing, ever since.
After completing my Ignite Experience, I walked away with an amazing amount of clarity for what I wanted to do for the rest of my life and why.
In the months since, my life took some interesting turns. Honestly, it wasn’t all easy. However, I really started to gain more confidence and conviction, as a result of my Ignite Experience. I have come to a place where I now feel that my career is incredibly fulfilling – even as a young adult.
Now my work is directly related to my curiosity and purpose, which is; to create inspired communities of infinite potential. I am a Community Development and Marketing Coach; where I work with businesses that want to grow their community of customers, while creating “brand advocates.”
Its incredible to see where I am now, and the life force I feel, for what I am involved with, compared to how lost I felt after graduating college. I know it took a tremendous amount of effort, faith and courage on my part, to get here. However, I grateful for the clarity of direction I gained, from my Ignite Experience.
“Your quest will create your body of work. Just use your natural sense of wonder as your compass – it’s a gift that truly guides us.”
We must allow our natural curiosity – our most passionate curiosity, to guide us. By shifting wandering to wondering with intention, about my natural curiosity, that my life began to truly unfold in amazing ways.
May you too discover your most passionate curiosity – your most profound curiosity, Explore what is possible for you, and forge your destiny before your very eyes!
I send you my best for the adventure that awaits you. Safe travels friends.
